Lygia Clark was a groundbreaking Brazilian artist whose paintings, sculptures, and works on paper reimagined the relationship between audience and object. For Luhring Augustine’s first exhibition of her work, I designed an invitation inspired by Clark’s graphic use of positive and negative space. Reminiscent of Clark’s all-over compositions, the typography creates a strong tension along the paper’s edge. The card can also be folded in a variety of ways, which incorporated Clark’s interest in audience participation and authorship.
